Renegades by Craig Alanson

I read a comment somewhere, that the biggest draw of the series is the banter between Joe and Skippy. I also read that the biggest letdown of the series is the banter between Joe and Skippy. And both comments are true. There are some scenes where the rivalry and ribbing between the two central protagonists carries the reader through page after page where nothing much happens. Only, then, something happens, and we're treated to Joe and Skippy arguing and fighting and revealing a little too much of how much of a schmuck they can each be. And that gets boring real fast.

All of that is to say that, as much as I enjoy the series, this book, volume seven took a minute to get through because it felt like too much of the same without enough forward progress to the over-arching story. However, the final chapters kick in with a bang and leave you (me, the readers) ready for the next book a.s.a.p.
