I certainly have friends I could recommend this book to but I did not enjoy it much. It's funny and dark but it's satirizing a straw man of an argument. I've never read Leibniz on the "best possible world" idea, but it seems like you could very simply argue that the best possible world 1. Requires free will as a greater good than pleasure or comfort and 2. Is far more concerned about the character of individuals than their circumstances. Candide doesn't engage meaningfully with either of these very basic objections imo.
