Lying on the Couch by Irvin D. Yalom

4.0

I didn’t like it at the beginning, but I think the storyline/plot gets very interesting. I liked Ernest’s character the more he developed as an honest, humanistic therapist. I was turned off by the detailed sexual thoughts the characters had and the descriptions of the women’s bodies (focusing in on the breasts). I enjoyed Carol’s character and I was happy to see her grow, especially through her therapy sessions. I do think her relationship with Jesse was a little more fleshed out, it progressed very fast with minimal development. I picked it up bc I’m in a helping field at entry level, and I do think I learned something from the book so I’m glad I read it.
