This was ...surprisingly boring for a Poppy Z Brite book. I mean if I'm willing to deal with all the edgy bullshit and misogyny that comes with a PBZ book - although this one *gasp* actually has a woman in it who does not die! or get raped! amazing! - then I'm doing it because I want to read something just super fucked up and this was not that. I know what you're thinking - 'but Devann, it literally starts with a dude murdering his wife and son and then himself' - and yeah that was messed up, but that was the prologue and then it was just pretty 'normal' up until towards the end.

The stuff where they went to the 'other world' was actually very interesting but that was about the only other part. I mean some of the romance aspect was weirdly cute but I wasn't really looking for cute and I'm kind of disappointed that

they both actually lived at the end and ran away to some tropical island together

. But it had good parts and like I said before I'm just shocked that there was a female character who didn't have anything awful happen to her so I rounded up instead of down.

Also I do not know why so many people have tagged this 'vampires' because there are literally no vampires anywhere near this. Baffling.
