It was fun and I think I may have a thing for supernatural academies in general because it gave the same excitement that another book this year, Shadowspell Academy, gave me. Basically, I was thrilled to read it. I loved the different classes Maddison was in and the different species in this story. What I really wanted though was a more in-depth writing style. There were times where Ms. Eve could have really sucked me into the world but chose to just skim past it stating what happened instead of showing it. And I know you can't go to every detail because the book is through the course of a whole year but there were so many times that she said too little. On another note, I was definitely into the dedication of the book to anyone who has ever felt lonely. I too have felt the suckiness of not having friends and being lonely so I crave books with good friendship dynamics. I liked the fact that she gave Maddi so many friends but if I saw the phrase "you're not alone" one more time I was going to scream. Literally, everyone was telling her that and it just became overkill. Overall though it was a good start to a series and I'm mad at myself for not noticing that not even the sequel is out yet so I can't binge read them.
Prattling Synopsis:
Mads doesn't remember anything before her 5th birthday, her powers are extremely strong yet blocked, and she has a blood test that confirms that she is the mix of fey and magic consistent with the Atlantians. skipping ahead she is kidnapped right after ash and she confesses them like for each other and when saving her he sacrifices himself for her. They take him to help raise Atlantis instead. after about four months of trying to search for answers and with no luck finding a library that may contain information on what/who Maddison, why they need her and how she can control her powers when they are released they decide to F it and go after Ash. (by the way, Homegirl has been having visions/dreams of ash's predicament so I def think they are mates). They go save ash and Maddison's powers are released when she is stabbed by a lesser sea "goddess". When they get back to school via a portal that Mads isn't supposed to be able to make until her last year of school she is immediately taken away and healed then locked away for a month because of her surges in power are too strong for anyone to control. Finally, Louis, a wizard that has been sporadically working with her to control her power throughout the book, comes to give her a necklace that can help reign in her power. She goes straight to asher and everything returns to normal... Kind of. she now lives in the mansion with the 5 and her besties Ilia and Larissa are allowed to come over. At the end of the book Conner, the guy who repeatedly tried to kidnap Madison comes to the school and is like I need to come. Atlantis is rising and your siblings need you to de-petrify them before the god that created y'all, Sonaris, comes to kill them all. homegirl is like yeah I'll come but in one week because I gotta dye my hair purple for my birthday.

Our girl in this story is 22-year old Maddison. Every year on her birthday, January 1st, she changes her hair to a different hair color. This year it's pink. Right as she's finished dying her hair in the bathroom of a motel a girl comes up out of nowhere and tells her she's a magical being and she's been looking for her. She has to go to the Supernatural Acadamy or risk exploding from her uncontrolled powers. The problem is that she does not believe that she has powers. The girl that has been tracking her turns out to be a girl named Ilia. Ilia put a spell on her hands to bind them. the only way to get out of the binds are to go to the school. There a lot of things happen. Namely, she starts to believe that she is meant to be at the academy. she meets Larissa, the principal of the school's daughter, and along with Ilia, they help ease Mads into life at the academy. This place has a high school feel but it is a school for supernatural from ages 21 to 25. You would think that would mean it would feel more like a college but no... there are cliques and popular crowds and everything highschool-y. the most popular guys are the Atlantian 5. These guys are descendant from the first fey/magic wielders to cross over from Faerie (specifically Atlantis) to Earth. They are very rare because most of them died when Atlantis sank to the bottom of the ocean and are a coveted race because they are stronger than all other races. Their names are Calen-magic wielder, Rone-vampire, Axl-magic wielder, Jesse- lion shifter and Asher- strong AF magic wielder. They are not related but they all grew up together and act like brothers. They're scary intimidating, strong, hot and totally interested in the new girl and why they can't gauge what she is. A lot happens throughout the year but the most important thing to know is that Mads is called to the water in a way that only other Atlantians are called and she is also called to Asher. There are also these people who keep trying to kidnap her called the Arterians. They believe she is the last daughter of the Sonaris royalty line of Atlantis.
