The Last Goodbye
by Fiona Lucas
When I saw [b:The Last Goodbye|55276653|The Last Goodbye|Fiona Lucas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1608039437l/55276653._SY75_.jpg|75621923] by [a:Fiona Lucas|21325654|Fiona Lucas|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1616855588p2/21325654.jpg] being publicized as in the vein of P.S. I Love You and perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes I knew I had to read it. This was everything I was expecting it to be - emotional, romantic, painful, and hopeful all rolled into one. I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by Antonia Beamish and it made this story even more emotional than it was on its own! She was the perfect voice for Anna, and I loved her narration for not only her but Brody's parts as well. It broke my heart that Anna would call Spencer’s phone, but I love that she was able to make the connection with Brody through doing that. Even with his secret that she later learns, which is heartbreaking by the way, this still had an ending that I absolutely adored and the ride we take to get there is filled with grief and pain, but also some hope and laughter as well. I loved the way Lucas wrote this novel, and I found myself tearing up more than once.
Anna is such a well-thought-out character, and I could practically FEEL every single emotion she was going through. I really enjoyed quite a few characters in the novel although I was not a big fan of Spencer's mother. She was the cause of a lot of drama for Anna as the story goes on, but by the time we get to the end I could understand some of her feelings and it really just goes to show that everyone handles grief differently. If you have experienced a loss of some kind, The Last Goodbye will probably leave you in a puddle as it did with me. It was such a touching story in so many ways, and I loved that through the grief there could be love and joy again. I fell in love with Lucas' writing and you can tell that she probably has just a few books under her belt. I am so happy I found this author and recommend The Last Goodbye to fans of emotional women's fiction and romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
