Boy Proof
by Cecil Castellucci
Content warnings: r-word used, narrator is dismissive of her mother, other women, many people initially. She's particularly dismissive of a romantic rival.
I honestly thought I would not read this book. Before getting rid of it I decided to give it a try; you know, read fifty pages so I could justify a DNF. Instead I got this oddly compelling completely readable story narrated by a prickly, frustratingly unfriendly girl realising she does actually want friends, and that friendships require work.
