This is different than what I’m used to with this author. This follows a podcast journalist and a woman whose mother fell in love with a con man and abandoned her to raise her little sister. The general plot is a very uncomfortable roadtrip to find answers. It’s slow moving but compelling. The insta-love was frustrating to me, but the author did a good job of conveying their undeniable connection. It’s a complicated story, and the ending is less important than the journey.
