I am having trouble describing how much I liked it. I definitely did like it, having trouble deciding on the degree.

I think the bones of the story are extremely compelling,  and sections are very powerful,  but also at times I would say it feels very overtly emotionally manipulate.  Obviously every book is trying to manipulate your emotions,  but as the reader I want to be tricked into this. I want it to feel like the author was just telling me what happened,  and I would say multiple times this book I felt the authors hand quite strongly. Also just at times the wording felt a little clunky.

I think Amir is an extremely compelling protagonist,  and the supporting casts relationships with him are very well (moreso Baba and Hassan than the others), and that supporting cast has compelling people who maybe aren't able to be deep enough to have essays written about them. But still I wanted to know what happened to them.

Overall, having a hard timr nailing it down,  I feel like my range of the score I could give this is wider than most books, probably like a  8/10.
