What Happened to Goodbye is my second Sarah Dessen book. I read That Summer which was also about divorce and which was, coincidentally, also taking place in Lakeview. If I were to choose a favorite between these two books, What Happened to Goodbye would be the easy choice. This book is about McLean who after years of pretending to be someone else regains, reclaims and finds the answer to the question of who she is, not who she is supposed to be.
I admire the author’s ability to write fascinating characters. I became attached to all of them. McLean was, relatable in a weird type of way. I really liked her new friends and even the employees at Luna Blu. I also loved the romance even if it was a minor part of this story.
I overall really enjoyed this book. It gave me this happy feeling of excitement and of nostalgia. And I hope one day I’ll complete my newfound goal of reading all of Sarah Dessen’s books.
