Maybe the solution to all my problems lies in the one man I consider to be an enemy, the one man who maybe isn’t my enemy at all.
I had really been looking forward to reading Tatum and Romero’s story, after all the tension and the feelings between them in the previous trilogy.
The MMC, Romero Pierce, is protective AF - seeing as he is a bodyguard, it is in his DNA. He is also a lot older than Tatum, fiercely loyal to her father and quite closed off. I really liked him most of the time, but I was also frustrated with him at times. I thought he should have put Tatum first more than he did, but he redeemed himself in the end.
Lord, please give me the strength I need not to murder her.
The FMC, Tatum Torrio, has led a sheltered, privileged life, and is a very sassy and stubborn woman. However, recent events have left her broken, and just trying to put the pieces together again. It was a big contrast to her previous life and led to amazing character growth in this book. I loved how strong she actually was, when she got the chance to show it, and she finally found her place. My heart broke for her at times, but she also managed to put it back together.
“Do you go out of your way to be a grumpy asshole, or does it come naturally?”
There is a lot of tension, fun banter, bickering, very fierce protectiveness and also quite a lot of spice. The happy ending was very hard-thought - at times I was doubting whether this would end happily, just because they had so much to overcome and work through.
“Come for me. Come on my cock like a good girl.”
We still see quite a lot of Callum and Bianca (from the previous trilogy) in this book, and man, Callum frustrated me A.LOT! Honestly though, he also did that at times in his own story, but here it is Tatum and Romero’s story and still, he is in focus at times, and also, quite the hypocrite seeing as he is having a baby with his daughter’s best friend.
I will still highly recommend this, if you like age gap, mafia, a fiercely loyal and protective bodyguard alpha, a broken, but strong young woman and a lot of tension, banter and spice.
