Not too many years ago, I was addicted to my Kindle. I subscribed to Kindle Unlimited and started what would become an ever increasing absorption of books through the years. Though, as I learned more about our society, unfair practices, and dangerous policies and grew to be more community-minded, my reading practices changed. I read more and more physical copies and always enjoyed the sense of tangibly feeling my progress through a good book. I also started traveling more intentionally, browsing through local downtown businesses (feeling a special sort of magic in bookstores) and finding the joy in discovering unique characteristics of various towns I found myself in.
Reading this book reminds me of and reinforces all the reasons I have evolved the way I take in books and bookstores and how I would like to continue living my life. There is a purposefulness in celebrating small businesses, in particular bookstores, since at their core they foster and in many ways fight for Community in a world that is fast turning to mega corporations as the answer to all of our supposed problems.
Please give this a read and discover so many ways that bookstores and booksellers can enrich your life, the life of your community and, given a hopeful evolution in policies and systems, the world at large.
