Mistress of Dragons by Margaret Weis

5.0

This is not a book for the faint of heart.

TW for those who are prone to reactions from sensitive topics:
Mentions of forced breeding, Rape, Assault, Forced Births / Taking of children after birth, death, mentions of suicide, death during pregnancy.

Mistress of Dragons is a novel that captivated my from page 1. While I had sadly read other reviews (1 Star with many spoilers) that tended to ruin major plot elements to contend that the book did not handle topics well or with need, I trudged on. What I found was a book desperate to be read as the first in a trilogy I hope I one day get to finish. There are many points of view, and it can be confusing, adding to the possibility of having a false narrator. But I strongly advise you to read this book if it peaks your interest at all.

The mentions of trigger warning content are sprinkled throughout the pages. The topic of rape doesn’t occur till near the end of the novel as well, leaving you plenty of pages to see if this book is for you.

Sadly, the spoiler ridden 1 Star reviews are correct, and the ending was spoiled for me. If anything this should have been a prequel novel to a full trilogy, but I won’t describe why.

Cover to cover I devoured this like a blood thirsty dragon. 5/5.
