A Dark Game by Mr Derrick Potscher, Mr Derrick Potscher
2.0
Thank you, Derrick, for sending me a copy of your ebook in exchange for my honest review!
The first half is hard to read; I really didn’t want to continue reading – I need to be grabbed in the first chapter or two or I quickly lose interest. The second half is more exciting and by the last third of the book, I actually wanted to read it.
I struggled to get into this book for a few reasons:
1) The writing style was confusing to me; the grammar was off in a lot of places, some words seemed to be used just randomly, the punctuation was terrible, and many sentences didn’t make sense, however many times I read it;
2) The characters were a little underdeveloped –there were characters and they had names, but I didn’t really get a feel of anyone’s true personality, except for Rick and maybe Natasha.
3) There is no clear timeline – things happened in places, over a span of 3 years, but some situations need an exact time; it adds depth.
4) The prologue was genuinely good, I felt like this was going to be a roller coaster ride; but the story never actually completes that particular circle which confused me even more.
The story certainly is plot driven, with a definite twist at the end – I really didn’t see that coming! SHOCKER!!
As a YA Romantic Thriller, which is so far out of my usual genre, I ultimately enjoyed the book, but I’m left with a lot of unanswered questions – hopefully the sequel will answer them.
In conclusion, the story was good but very poorly executed.
