Wow, where do I even start. This is the easiest 5 star rating I've ever given, and the book goes straight to the best reads of my entire life, and I've read a lot.
This is a book about lust and obsession, about taking risks in life and about what truly matters, about longing and belonging, and discovering who you are.
I find that it describes what goes on in the mind of a teenager with incredible detail and accuracy. It reminded me of my own summer romance when I was about the same age as the protagonist, how it starts, progresses and ends when one party leaves and another remains... this is exactly how it feels, the author nails it perfectly. I had literal goosebumps when reading the book.
I loved the prose and the vivid descriptions of the Italian Riviera. I spend summers in the Mediterranean Sea and the descriptions are so accurate, you can almost feel the heat of the sun on your skin, the smell of the sea and the sound of cicadas as you read the book.
And the prose... O.M.G... I barely finished this, and I'm already wanting to re-read it to immerse myself into this poetic language..
A true masterpiece, a book to read and re-read, a book I'll never forget.
I'll leave here my favourite quote that pretty much summarises the book for me:
"Seeing you here is like waking from a twenty-year coma."
