I LOVED this. I bought a physical copy to read this summer, but I turned on the audio for a moment, just out of curiosity, since it’s a bit outside my regular physical-book reading habits. I straight-up could NOT stop, from the moment I turned the audio on — I think it only lasted me a few days, despite having very little actual commuting time while I was reading it! (I ended up giving the physical copy to my Mom, who’s halfway in already now too!) All to say — the audio was awesome, but the book itself was just so good. It was sort of all I wanted from stupid God of the Woods (haha — don’t @ me, I HATED IT last summer): in terms of pacing and ferociously etched plot, but also the much more detailed and beautiful characters and their complexities and humanity. I happened to be reading this while working in Maine and staying in a small cabin in the pitch-black woods, and that definitely amped up both my enjoyment of this and my total terror (truly could NOT listen late at night, haha). I loved it. I’m excited to read more Amity Gaige.
