A Clasp for Heirs by Morgan Rice
2.5
adventurous dark emotional mysterious sad tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

After giving up on this book back in March, I resolved to read it in December. It's the last book in the A Throne for Sisters series. Curiously enough, there apparently was supposed to be a ninth book, but it never materialized. For that, I am grateful.

The third time around, I chose to read the book for myself because the narrator is just plain awful.

The story is a mad rush to a mostly finished ending. The Master of Crows is comedic shadow of himself. The same can be said for all the characters. No one of consequence died. This series is a prime example of a serial going on for more books than necessary.

WARNING: Ranty Spoilers Ahead! Turn back while you can!

Sophia and Sebastian
Rice struggled with developing and juggling all of these characters. Sophia is the only one who seems somewhat plausible in her course, but not very convincing. A girl who couldn't figure out a way to escape the orphanage is suddenly commanding armies...um...nope. The most useful thing Sebastian did was allow himself to be impaled on Kate's sword to protect Sophia. I'll say this much for Sophia and Sebastian--they are very consistent in their selfish humility no matter what. Everyone must die for them and their precious, precious, but they will only die for each other.

Kate
Kate is dumb per usual. She never learns and people die and suffer because of it. Bad choices seem to be a Danse family trait. The parents were dumb and weak. They literally died within minutes of being reunited with their children. And why did mom think showing Kate the moment Will was blown to smithereens made for loving reunion chit-chat?

Lucas
As for Lucas, he was a shade above Sebastian. Not entirely useless, but also not very helpful. I mean, he needed Rika to help him and I did not appreciate having to delve into Rika's inane thoughts.

Henry
Speaking of stupid: Why was Henry D'Angelica introduced? It was as if Rice said 'let's add in one more lame complication.'

Master of Crows
The great battle proved to be a womp-womp-womp. The MOS literally marched to his death after already seeing it in a vision. Like, make it make sense.

HEA?
But hey Sophia, Sebastian, and Violet get to live happily ever after... at least until some shadow people come to claim precious, precious as Princess Christina. Whatever...
