The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels
1.0
The Communist Manifesto, written by Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx, shows the basics of communism and how it can be integrated into a capitalist or other economic system.
First, it starts with the proletariat and the bourgeoisie. The proletariat, or the worker, is the only class. The bourgeoisie, who currently own the means of production, are eliminated and brought down to the proletariat level. The means of production is given to whoever is in power, which are the Proletariats. Private property is abolished and and it demands dictatorship.
There are several issues I had with this flawed thinking. I will list a few:
1. It seems that Marx and Engels underestimated the civility of humans. Whether you like it or not, mankind is evil, hypocritical, evil, and easy to manipulate. Dostoevsky pointed these problems out it many of his novels, stating that not all men are equipped and capable of thinking for himself, and are horrible at making decisions for themself.
2. Marx and Engels overestimated the capability of a small government/dictatorship. Imagine all of the industries, chains, companies, enterprises we have today. There must be hundreds, if not thousands, of managers that take care of these industries. Now imagine all of that in the hands of the government. There is no way a government would effectively able to beneficially control such a large population that way. It may work in a small village, or tribe, but certainly not in a large country.
3. They underestimated the effectiveness of capitalism. Many today view capitalism as a way of making “the rich, richer, and the poor, poorer”. This is also flawed thinking because we have seen repeatedly in capitalist economies that they thrive. You have to understand that there will always be inequality in society. However, capitalism gives people a chance to reel themselves out of poverty, better than communism does.
4. Social hierarchies. Even before capitalism, and ever since agriculture was discovered, there have been social hierarchies. Even before capitalism was established, man felt a desire to compete and reach the top. You may have heard references to “rich people never feel satisfied with what they have”. It is true, and even if the government nicely serves the population with what they need, people will always want MORE. People are naturally greedy, and no amount of substances will ever satisfy people.
Communism failed.
