Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton

Incredible novel. This took me some time to get into, but it was so worth it. I dipped in and out for most of a week, while the story built slowly but surely for the first half of the book. Then, suddenly, I realized I was invested in these characters and didn’t want to stop listening. The second half of the book makes the slow rumination on a childhood in Brisbane at the beginning worthwhile. I was sad when it was over.

The writing style is a perfect match for the story and for Eli’s expansive imagination. I think it may have been hard to get into the rhythm if I’d been reading, but listening to it was perfect. The narrator, Stig Wemyss was fabulous.
