I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while, but even so, I had little idea what I was getting into. At times reading this, I was nauseated, revolted, and deeply disturbed. The contents of this novel make me genuinely concerned about the state of humanity, and I wonder if Nabokov has some serious problems that allowed him to so convincingly write a disgusting character. That being said, Nabokovs writing is genius and beautiful. His story telling is marvelous, and the tiny details he spins into the thread of words make the novel feel like a puzzle to inspect and solve. I could spend months analyzing this book…. But I’m prioritizing my mental health. I don’t think I can stomach reading that again.
