Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon
4.0
4.5 stars.
goodreads, i'm *begging* for half-stars, because like, this is the perfect book for it? it's not a full 5-star read (as in, it didn't deliver the feelings i had with the other books on my 5-star shelf) but also 4 feels too low? so 4.5. it is, haha.
case and point, this was absolutely delightful. rachel lynn solomon could write the phone book and i'd read it at this point, her works never disappoint. ari, our protagonist in this one, is literally so relatable. as someone who also has depression and anxiety, i know how hard it is to show that part of yourself to someone out of fear of rejection, especially if most of the other times you try to keep a "happy face" around everyone. her journey of realizing that she deserves love just like any other neurotypical person literally had me crying.
and russell? DREAM BOAT LUMBERJACK MAN OF MY DREAMS. he was literally a golden retriever, so sweet with ari and the best father to eloide. the insecurity around his weight also was like, perfect rep for the plus-sized community (because i too have written myself off one too many times because of my weight). MORE PLUS-SIZED ROMANTIC INTERESTS PLEASE AND THANK.
anyway, brb, gonna cry because i don't have a golden retriever boyfriend with a dad bod to call me 'weather girl' BYE
