A story of a California girl who is obsessed with the cold north and finds her way there. A unique story of trying to belong, feeling like a fraud, and then when the right moment comes along, finds out she has prepared herself for this moment all along.
Being half Finnish, I should know cold. However my mother moved to Hawaii where I was born and I have been sensitized to cold. I have been obsessed with the north too... Finland and Alaska. However, I didn’t bother learning to sleep in a snow cave (coffin) or how to dog sled myself through a blizzard. I’m way too soft for that, so I give the author much respect for transforming her life into the life she wanted to have.
I absolutely love her partner. When I heard he was on Naked and Afraid, I immediately watched it. His kind heart came out in the show like it was portrayed in the book.
