I did not know anything about this story before I picked this one up and man was I surprised.

This is a story about a famous musician named Frankie Presto, but the twist with this story is that it is told from the perspective of music. This framing device was novel, and it did add to the overall tone, flow, and development of the plot, but as the novel progressed, it became more of a gimmick rather than an ingenious storytelling element.

Also, this book jumps around quite a bit and interjects many chapters from people Frankie has meet real and fictional, which I thought was a cool element. However, these interruptions began to detract from the momentum of the plot and detracted from Frankie's character development.

These two elements combined work in the beginning but became just a nuisance to the story being told. The characters and plot suffered the most from this. It felt as if things were being forced upon the reader.

Despite these flaws, the writing in this book is just excellent. It kept me engrossed, and it had almost a musicality and rhyme to it.

Overall, this was a well-constructed novel full of heart and is definitely worth your time.
