Mistaken Kiss
by Kathleen Baldwin
Willa the very VERY near sighted (but open minded) and Alex the man who is more than he thinks.
No Dukes here.
Willa has lived the quiet scholarly life brought up in the country by her pastor brother and his equally dull friend Daniel. Finally her brother realizes that she now has breasts (quite large ones) and must marry.. so wouldn't it be so simple if she just married his friend Daniel? Then nothing would have to change and no expensive 'season' would have to occur in London. Sounds great right?
Willa isn't so sure. She decides to try out Daniel's suitability by kissing him but she isn't wearing her glasses. So to her surprise the man she finds in the orchard isn't Daniel but his younger brother Alex, the black sheep. Cause everybody knows that Alex is good for nothing right?
Perhaps nothing would have come of it, and she would have been married to Daniel and lived a long boring life, but along comes Aunt Honore. The same Aunt from book one, who delights in her old age, to manipulate people into finding true love.
I confess I wasn't so enamoured by Alex at first. 'Been reading too many books with hot, brooding Dukes and Earls. But there's more to Alex than it first seems and Willa is no dummy.
It's a fun story of quirky events and scandalous actions or lack of actions by Aunt Honore.
The ending seemed a little abrupt but I did not feel in any way cheated. The lead up to the end said all that needed to be said.
