Tartuffe by Molière
5.0

This is was a great play. Such a delight - funny and, as it befits Moliere, gets you laughing at all the immoralities. It's cleverly done and still so relevant in our century.

I suppose the low ratings are from people that have only read it and didn't watch the play unfold. I highly recommend the 1983 televised adaptation done by the Royal Shakespeare Company, you can find it on YouTube. With good actors, this is terribly captivating and the characters' typologies will be long imprinted in your mind.

Dorine has to be the funniest nosy character I've ever come across and god knows I've seen enough Ogrons in my life. Wish I could read the original version that was banned.

I'll give it 5 stars because somehow it feels that plays should not be held at the same standard as other books (in terms of readability) because it was written for the stage. In its own category, Tartuffe rocks.
