Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller
4.0
Read this review and more on my blog.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns is one of the few comic books that everyone say that you should read, and I can see why.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns follows a Bruce Wayne, 10 years after retiring from being Batman and his sudden return to being the caped crusader. As mush I want to avoid comparing aspect of The Dark Knight Returns to Batman V Superman, since I watched the movie first on almost every page I saw the inspiration and influence that the movie took from this.
The storyline was a simple and easy to follow one that but added in things that (at the time since it was published in 1986) were unexpected. Miller managed to combine multiple level of storylines as well as showing the readers what an aged Gotham may look like when all the villains and heroes leave their costumes for good.
The art style is very unique and I loved it! It was very old school and how I always pictured comic books to be written in. I did find it a tad annoying thought that at times it did seem like some of the frames were exact copies of ones that has happened before (like they just copied and pasted it because they did not want to redraw a frame).
If you have not read Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and you read comic books and graphic novels WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! It may seem that everyone says that you should read this and they are right! Even if it is just to add your own opinion to the mix.
