Lies We Sing to the Sea by Sarah Underwood
2.5
So much romance. So much romance that it distracts from the story, in my opinion. And there is some very slight spice, which I didn't expect from what I believed to be a YA novel.
But, it was a very cool concept, with some interesting characters. Sadly, I don't think the ideas or characters were actually developed in interesting ways. Less flirting, more intrigue!
Also I didn't like the romance between Melantho and Leto. A super old woman who only looks young, manipulates a young girl into possibly committing murder and doesn't tell her the truth about why bad things are happening in the first place.
And it always annoyed me that Leto was on board with killing the prince because it's his life for the lives of hundreds of girls, but the second killing him would also kill Melantho it's suddenly a problem? You want to kill the prince, the future king, the only one trying to help the kingdom through their money problem, beloved brother, that's totally fine! But Melantho? Oh no, I love her too much to live without her, so I guess more little girls have to die until we sort it out! That's so stupid!!!
