The Wedding People by Alison Espach

I've really been enjoying the trope of books about relatable, strong-willed women who are going through a particularly difficult time in their life (i.e. [b:Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine|35900387|Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine|Gail Honeyman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1557858891l/35900387._SY75_.jpg|47327681], [b:Chemistry|31684925|Chemistry|Weike Wang|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1479350390l/31684925._SY75_.jpg|52358042]). I find it easy to empathize with Phoebe's struggles with the terrible hand life has dealt her. Her exasperation is evident when she happens upon an elaborate wedding which unexpectedly interferes with her own personal plans. The story is both darkly humorous and cleverly plotted. The meandering dialogue, both internal and external, is delightful, conveying the perfect amount of ridiculousness to the situation.

The tone is snarky and refreshing and full of wit. The characters are well-developed and flawed but still very likable. This book was the perfect balance of light but not fluffy - there was plenty of meaning and heart to be gleaned from the story.
