Persuasion
by Jane Austen
I forgot how much of a pleasure it is to read Austen’s writing. The way she’s able to make even the side characters multilayered and whole makes for a beautiful read. I loved that I felt all of the wretchedness* of Anne’s situation, the rollercoaster of having hope, the losing it all over again especially in the first half of the book was exquisite (she said in a masochistic way). It just made the joy at reading the words “I am half hope, half agony” all the better.
- 0.5⭐️ because the ending was so quick. Even though we do learn of what happens to all of the characters, there are no loose threads, I wish we would have gotten a longer account on a couple of things.
* yes, that’s not in my usual vocabulary but I just finished an Austen book
