Her Name in the Sky by Kelly Quindlen

emotional medium-paced

2.0

This book is a debut, and, as such, is definitely rough around the edges. The prose is a bit clunky. What works here is the Catholic element--of being gay and having such a strong Catholic upbringing and community and how hard that is. The commentary on this issue wasn't woven into the narrative in the most cohesive way, but it still managed to be the most interesting part of the book, as it was clearly the driving force behind this book. The romance is where this book falls flat for me. I was never rooting for them as a couple, only for them to independently discover themselves.
