The Great Alone Review

I officially want to visit Alaska. Maybe move there. TBD.

I finally read this wonderful book. Better late than never right? I loved every piece of it. Will some people say it is predictable? Sure. Will some say it's unrealistic? Maybe. Do I care? Not one bit. I was enamored with the setting and the characters and with them finding happiness.

The Allbright family moves to Alaska in 1974. Ernt was a former prisoner of war and still struggles with the trauma and memories of the war. He moves the family to Alaska in an attempt to find peace within himself and start a new life. However, the dark days of Alaska make him much worse, and his wife, Cora, gets the brunt of it. Their daughter, Leni, knows that real love is not supposed to be like this. She loves Alaska but wants to escape her father's wrath and wants her mother to leave with her. Her attempt is unsuccessful and dangerous and leaves more broken pieces in its wake.
