Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
4.0

Felt like reading a classic, and since it had been ten years since I first read it, it felt right to revisit Jane Eyre. I think I must have read an abridged version in 2015 though, because especially the first third of this book felt very long. We only meet Mr Rochester on page 132…?!? But once I got into the main narrative, I loved it again. Jane is such a wild spirit and I am in awe of her strength and resilience. And I’d forgotten that mr Rochester dresses up as a fortune teller just to find out what Jane thinks of him - it’s hilarious!! And of course Jane’s speech, “I have as much soul as your and full as much heart” is still as wonderful as ten years ago. She’s a perfect heroine, so human in her struggles with her conscience and her feelings. The last few scenes had me laughing with joy at her joy and Mr Rochesters adorable jealousy and submission. The perfect classic to get back into reading classics
