The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

3.0

I picked this up after years of conundrum that ran through my mind, racking every nerves to decide whether to read or not, The Alchemist.

I don't usually read hyped-up top-sellers unless they are REALLY good.

Fast forward, I bought it finally to know what it holds to be called a self-help book which is also a fiction.

After finishing it, although quite content I no longer have a dilemma to read or not to read, I did not expect the bombardment of a new dilemma whether to give it a 3 star or a 4 star.

I am quite stumped.

Almost 30% in, I thought it would suck, then it didn't, it suddenly became a book with thoughts and ideas and philosophies the author penned. Good ones too. However, I can't say I am extremely moved by the ending, even though there were epigrams (can I call it that?) which were thought provoking but not very original in its idea.

I would like to push the score to 3.5 but the system forbids me -
