Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John le Carré
5.0
I started reading this as a challenge to tackle a genre I’ve always avoided; ended up with the first 5 stars of the year.
Spy novels and thrillers: not my bag at all, and I’ve avoided Le Carrè since having to read The Spy Who Came in from the Cold in Year 10. But this truly was a page turner; and smart, in the sense that there’s so much in it that went over my head. Le Carrè is (was) a beautiful writer, though, and what I didn’t expect was that it would be funny (and poignant). A big and unexpected surprise!!! And there are two more George Smiley books in the trilogy apparently.
