A Court of Sugar and Spice
by Rebecca F. Kenney
This book was somewhere between 1 to 1.5 stars in rating. Kindle Unlimited made me curious, which is why I picked it up. Honestly this book had a solid main plot, but it also had too many side plots/things happening that just took away from the main story. While I get how this could be a nutcracker retelling, it wasn't your traditional retelling. The author made this retelling super, crazy spicy/raunchy and focused waaaay to much on that from start to finish. I don't mind spice in a book at all, but I do mind when it takes away from the story and even too from the romance/character connections. It's hard to get connected to characters when there isn't much to them. I think had the author toned that side of things down and focused a little more on the character development, this might have been a better story. I liked the idea, but the execution of this book just fell short for me. It also bothered me that this book was like a combo of being old fashioned mixed with modern day language that just didn't fit. The author just needed to pick an era and stick with it.
