I will preface my review with acknowledging that while I am queer, I am not trans. And while I try to listen and educate myself, I will never truly know the struggles and experiences of my trans friends or the author, Torrey Peters. I look forward to seeing my friends to hear their reviews as well as read Peters's earlier novel Detransition, Baby.
I will be honest, I found myself befuddled and uncomfortable at times listening to the audiobook. But I also found myself questioning and reflecting on the discomfort. It is this unspoken invitation to self reflection that speaks to Peters' talent as a writer.
Of the short stories, Infect Your Friends and Loved Ones was my favorite.
