I really liked the general idea and plot of this book, but the pacing really threw me off. I got to 50% in my audiobook and went “I thought this was a mystery?” only for the mystery to begin literally right after. (Yes, not until over half way through.) I liked Perry’s journey and the history we learned in the first half, but it just felt like the plot changed suddenly. Then—the end. EVERYTHING happened in the last 5-10% of the book. Everybody was suddenly involved, even the ones we weren’t really ever fully introduced to. And as real as the MMIW issue is, the way it was brought in as a plot point at the end was confusing. I had to restart the end from the time one of their team members runs off in the woods (iykyk) because I had no idea what was happening.
