All Souls by Javier Marías
3.0
Oxford-set, melancholy, digressive first-person account of a male lecturer, visiting from Spain, and his two-year affair with an Englishwoman. About four-fifths through I was growing impatient with its complacent privileged worldview, but shortly after, as the affair nears its end, it introduces a recollected event that is surprising and affecting.
