This was billed as a story about Ursula. The little mermaid from the perspective of the villain. It was not.
Instead it was a building of this fantasy world that has villains in it. I feel like the author was so interested to tie everything together via the odd sisters, with Circe, with Princess Tulip and her witchy Nanny, with leading into Maleficent, that she actually forgot about Ursula.
We get the scene from Poor Unfortunate Souls, including lyrics. We get a scene where she explains to the sisters why she hates Triton. We get a scene where she turns into Vanessa. That's it, basically. Even the finale we see from the odd sisters perspective, as they watch it unfold through a mirror.
After reading a very short book we still know nothing about Ursula. I don't care about the odd sisters or the witchy Nanny or Princess Tulip. I want to read about Ursula.
