dystopian world where the surface of the earth is uninhabitable due to radiation from wars in the past. humans have been forced underground for generations. fmc is sentenced to spend the rest of her life in prison because she took a poetry book from the archives from her only friend. reduced to a number, 317, fmcs life is to work as a slave and survive. mmc is captian in the prison in charge of her cell block. after she gets attacked by a guard and almost killed by a prisoner she begins training with him to learn to fight. the governor takes a interest in her as she discovers how the crops are dying and soon everyone will die. fmcs prisoner friends devise a plan to contact a neighboring city but is confronted with news that the same situation is happening there as well. a new plan is formed to escape the prison with help from mmc that fmc is getting close with and a prisoner who’s traveled to other cities and reveled that the surface is survivable. during their escape plan they are confronted by the governor who the fmc shoots in the chest. he is unfazed and begins attacking until mmc rips his head off and reveals he’s a robot.
