I don't really get the hype that was built up around this book. The world building seemed drawn out, like ten books long drawn out. It's hard for me to get hooked into a world I know nothing about and it's pretty clear I won't know anything more until the bitter end. The characters were lackluster and predictable with a dash of forced dialogue. The back stories were either agonizingly drawn out or completely absent (chapters and chapters worth versus a handful of sentences.) The entire thing was tedious and dull. I gave up about 300 pages in and read the chapter summaries on line. As predicted the remaining 700 pages covered perhaps 100 pages worth of content.
