The Secret Place by Tana French
4.0

The thing that I love about Tana French's books is the she puts her finger right on the uncomfortable emotional space of human relationships. In this one it's the point of friendship and teenage emotions. How far would you go to protect your friends?

My only complaint with this particular book is that it literally all happens in a day. There's not ebb and flow of the investigation, which would give you a bit of time to mull and ponder the situation. It's just straight from cold case to pivotal day; it makes for a very tense read that affects the pace of the novel.

Overall I really enjoyed the read, for the emotional space created around the characters: nothing is as it seems, and people's decisions are made by much deeper reasons that are often explored in novels.

Tana, I'll keep reading, if you keep writing.
