Is My Oxford Year wildly unbelievable and way too pretentious for its own good? Probably, but Whelan's storytelling and narration magic made me love it anyway.

Did I see the trailer for the upcoming movie and then immediately dropped everything to read (or really, listen to) this book? Absolutely. And while it didn't totally live up to my expectations, especially considering the fact that Thank You For Listening is one of my all-time favourite romances, I had a terribly good time devouring this scrumptuous and tragically beautiful love story.

I mean, I can't say I really connected to Ella or Jamie at any point, and I sure could have done with a bit less pretentious scholarly talk and literary rambles in exchange for better character-/relationship development (especially for the side characters), but then... I came here for a swoony (forbidden?) romance and Whelan more than delivered on that. Also was not expecting this story to tug on my heartstrings so much, but things got quite tragic and emotional, and I love it all the more for it.

Whelan really can do no wrong, be that as a narrator or as a storyteller. Very glad I finally got around to this one, and I am now super curious to see how the adaptation will compare. Surely, it can't be better than the book... Or, can it?
