Laughable Loves by Milan Kundera

4.0

Kundera writes of human nature with disarming honesty. “The Hitchhiking Game” is absolutely brilliant. There were times I loved and hated both the characters and Kundera. The misogyny is hard to look past – the men are bastards and the women are weak, emotional, subject to their eroticism but not in control of it.

He tries to illuminate the fundamental weaknesses of our kind, both male and female, but you wonder if we are perhaps more than just the amalgamation of vices and hormones he suggests. The stories can take you anywhere from laughing out loud to feeling completely demoralized. Fascinating work - still thinking about it days after finishing this read.
