(4.5) A beautiful book about a widower enduring a midlife crisis in 30s Portugal who comes under the youthful spell of anti-fascist activists. The story itself is interesting, and told in a direct and somewhat humorous way. But the meditations on faith, spirituality, and vocation are all small wonders in their own respective ways. The book glides along with its goofy protagonist until its emotional ending leaves the reader in tatters.
