this is such an impressive debut novel. the author clearly did a lot of research on this subject and made really seemingly accurate portrayals of war and loss. i enjoyed getting some of the background of Ellwood and Gaunt, but i could have done with a little bit more in terms of the beginning and end of their relationship. i think the author portrayed grief and the effects of war so well and characterized so beautifully that this felt like a recounting. i thoroughly enjoyed this one and recommend it to my TSOA fans.
