I started this book on the last day of our vacation in St. John's, NFLD. I liked being able to recognize locations and historical/cultural references thanks to our time there. Helen's husband dies on the Ocean Ranger disaster in 1982, and the novel looks at the everyday snippets of her life before and after his death. There are moments when her grief seems to swallow her up, and moments where she just keeps putting one foot in front of the other. I thought it was a beautiful story.
