Loving the Liar by Lola King
4.0
"Ella is my safe place. She’s my guardian angel. Her mere presence makes me feel invincible. Her existence makes me want to throw my life to the flames for her." - Chris
"I don't want to know the man I gave my all to and who abandoned me loves me. Because if you truly did, you wouldn't be with her." - Ella
This the first book that I read from this author and it won't be the last! The secret society was very easy to understand. Obviously this book is very toxic, Chris is very toxic and manipulative but this is just the way Chris and Ella always were, they need to put a lot of work in themselves and their relationship for that to change. It's a process and that takes a lot of time and patience for the reader. But there is some character development later in the book, there were little parts where Chris was genuinely sweet and open to show a vulnerable side of him.
The Circle decides if they're (the women) fit enough to be the Hera, the wife and marry a Shadow (the men of the Circle that have the power). If not, they become one of the Aphrodites, the mistresses.
Ella wants to be in the circle to help her family but does she become a Hera or a Aphrodites? Read this book and then you will know the answer.
"Who is the real danger when we adapt to the people who hurt us? Is it them? Or is it ourselves by showing them we are willing to accept their behavior?"
I'm excited to read the next book in this serie and more from this author. I received an ARC copy of this book.
