Game of Queens: The Women Who Made Sixteenth-Century Europe by Sarah Gristwood

4.0

Review - I thought that this book was quite eye-opening, as it looks not just at the English queens, consort and regnant, like Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth, but also those powerful women across Europe including Margaret of Austria, Isabella of Castile and Marguerite of Navarre. It dives into the lives of the women and discusses what influenced them and how they gained and handled power. It's very cleverly written and the subject matter is handled well, interspersing the lives of the different queens while moving through the century.
