Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
5.0

She´s done it again. TJR has done it again.

Carrie Soto is a tennis legend and has won 20 grand slam titles. It’s 1994, she’s retired and at the US open she watches Nicki Chan match her record, so she decides to come out of her retirement and reclaim that record.

I have played tennis for about 8 years of my life when I was younger, I never competed but this book kinda made me wish I did. I think this book is great whether you know anything about tennis or not, it perfectly explained the basic rules and explains also explains how to be a better player. This book really transports you to the tennis matches, it feels like you´re sitting at the benches watching everything go down! However if you for some reason really hate tennis, dont read this. You won’t like it because it’s full of it. I´m not a big sports person but I have always loved playing and watching tennis so I knew I would love this book, for multiple reasons

I loved carrie as a character!! She’s a strong, powerful and unapologetic female MC and I love her for it. She unapologetically talks about how she is the greatest tennis player of all time and how much she has worked for her success. As always with TJR her characters all feel so real! Carrie Soto may be referred to as a bitch but she’s my bitch

It’s not only a story about carrie soto coming back to tennis but it’s also about being a woman in sports, sexism, and the double standards. It’s also about expectations, self reflection, acceptance, joy, respect, love, forgiveness. Aside from the things I’ve already mentioned it also has a beautiful father/daughter relationship and a slow burn and pure romance.

I absolutely love this multiverse that TJR has created, first of all there’s crossover from Daisy jones and the six and Malibu rising<3 When we met her in Malibu rising it was easy to just see her as ”the other woman” so I’m really glad that TJR gave us this chance to see her as more than that and actually seeing more about her life! I didn’t like her a lot while reading Malibu rising but after reading this, I love her! There’s also mentions about real people - she reads gossip about Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson and sees Princess Diana at Wimbledon and there’s also mentions of real tennis players, for example Björn Borg!<3

Do yourself a favor and read this incredible book! I loved every second of it
